Zodiac has long been a reputable manufacturer of pool products. Their acquisition of Polaris Pool, Inc. greatly strengthened their position in the automatic pool cleaner market. The Baracuda line of Zodiac products offers both automatic and robotic pool cleaners. We will start by first reviewing the automatic line beginning with the Baracuda X7 Quattro. The Quattro is a suction - side pool cleaner intended for use in an in ground pool. Zodiac, Inc. has incorporated a traction control system ( "QTC"- Quattro Traction Control) and re-engineered the diaphragm of the Quattro to bring forth results oriented performance. The design and technology is highly innovative. The new diaphragm is one moving part aiding in simplicity of working parts. The Quattro automatic pool cleaner is intended for use in an in ground pool. The Quattro is powered via your existing filtration system. The X7 Quattro is athletic and highly mobile, allowing for improvement in climbing walls and navigating the pools' surfaces much faster and more efficiently. The quality of materials used in the construction of this unit makes for a tough durable product. The QTC (traction control) system helps to create more suction and sticking power when it comes to tight corners. There are 4 individual flexible discs that move the Baracuda X7 Quattro past the norm in traditional mobility. The increased agility and mobility is produced via a tilt action rudder and the flexible connection hose design. In tandem these components allow for thorough surface cleaning and navigating those hard to get to spots.

Exceptional cleaning power, December 21, 2009
Everything about the X7 is an improvement over previous models. The newly designed hoses are sturdier and the twist and fit connections allow for greater suction with no leaking. The main issue with this cleaner is you just can't get away with throwing it in the pool and have it do it's job without first following all instructions and making the proper adjustments for your pool. You absolutely must take the time to adjust your jets, perform the water flow test, and use the weight. You might require a second weight depending on the depth of your pool. This entire process took less than an hour and that includes initial set up. My personal adjustments were to lower the flow at the pump by opening the main drain slightly and using less hose than provided. Too much length will have it getting stuck. My pool is spotless and after the initial set-up, it's effortless. I highly recommend the Baracuda X7 if you're willing to put in a little time to get it right.

Getting Stuck, June 14, 2009
Durability: Fun: Educational:
I got my baracuda x7 after my old polaris 140 finally failed. Main problem with this cleaner is that it's getting stuck on my permanent steps every 20 min. I tried everything that they suggest in troubleshooting section and everything I could think of. I changed lenth of the hose, position of the weight, flow, direction of flow of returns- still no result. I think that if rubber they made it from was more rigid it could prevent this problem. At this point I have no choice but return it.

Don't waste the money, August 8, 2009
My X7 not only could not clean the whole pool it was broken down more times than a new product should be. It has no moving parts but the parts that are there tend to break very easy with a HIGH cost of repair for Plastic and rubber. One small plastic clip cost me $40. Now the diaphragm has split and I hate to see what that is gong to cost. The X7 pushed the dirt around more than it picked it up and would not travel the whole pool no mater how I adjusted the weight, hose, pressure, etc. I had to tie a rope to it to guide it manually. It has been only a few months and I am looking to go back to a Hayward. It only broke down every 2 years and now I know the cost was less over a 2 year period to fix it. UPDATE 6 months of use: the X7 will now cost me more to keep it running than to buy a Hayward Ultra 2025CS. ALL the parts are rotten, cracked, leaking and it never did clean the pool without me guiding it with a rope from the side. |
